NNP WOMEN CALL ON NDC TO RE-START SAFETY NET PROGRAMS

Tuesday 18th October, 2011: The Women’s Arm of the New National Party has called on the Tillman Thomas Administration to immediately re-start various safety net programs which had been developed under the past administration. In a resolution drafted at the Party’s Women’s Convention on Sunday the following resolution was adopted unanimously by the women present:

Whereas the women of the New National Party met on October 16th 2011 at the St. Mark Secondary School to discuss the affairs of the women of Grenada and to elect an Executive.

And whereas the women of the NNP are seriously affected by the current economic hardship facing the country at this time.

And whereas many needy students in Grenada received assistance and support from the NNP Government in the form of school books, school uniforms, transportation assistance and other necessitous assistance.

And whereas many students are forced now to remain at home because their parents are unable to pay transportation costs to send them to school.

Be it now resolved that the women of the New National Party call on the Tillman Thomas Administration to immediately recommence and fairly implement the school transportation program.

And be it therefore further resolved that the NNP Women call on the NDC and the Tillman Thomas Administration to immediately implement all other safety net programs started by the NNP Administration such as the Milk Program, Food Basket Program, Water for the Poor and School Books and Uniform Program for needy students in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

The resolution was drafted after consultation with women from all parts ofGrenadaand reflects the concerns of these women as espoused by the NNP.
