Tuesday 18th October 2011: The St Andrew Team Leaders of the Opposition New National Party (NNP) has staged a successful impromptu visit to the relocatedGrenville Market Square on Saturday 8th October.
The team was lead by General Secretary of the party and Parliamentary Representative of St. Andrew North East Honourable Roland Bhola along with former Minister of Social Services Mrs. Yolande Bain Horsford, former Minister of Youth Mrs. Emmalin Pierre and Team Leader Mrs. Delma Thomas.
The Opposition Team spent several hours meeting the vendors and shoppers at the new temporary location and listening to their comments and concerns. Honorable Bhola stated that the main issues surrounded the worsening state of the economy with vendors unable to generate substantial earnings as well as several physical inconveniences at the new temporary location.
Mrs. Horsford and Mrs. Thomas stated that the vendors generally used the opportunity to call on the NDC Administration to pay attention to their needs as the volume of vendors together with the heat and humidity generated at the venue needs to be addressed quickly. They also spoke of the vendors asking that Opposition members to voice their concerns with a view to having these situations rectified.
Mrs. Pierre spoke of the reasoning behind the visit being the vendors of the Town ofGrenvillevoicing several concerns over the past few weeks as they have been relocated due to the start of the delayed Caribbean Development Bank funded Grenville Market and Abattoir Project.
The New National Party St Andrew Team calls on the NDC Administration to immediately seek remedies to the various problems faced by the vendors and other users of the Grenville Market.
