NNP COMPLETES SUCCESSFUL ENVIRONMENTAL DAY CLEAN UP

Tuesday 5th June, 2018: The New National Party (NNP) on Sunday (June 3rd) held a successful clean up campaign in the St. George and St. Andrew areas. A team of supporters from the five St. George based constituency branches cleaned the Rocks along the western seacoast from the cruise ship terminal to the St. George Bus Terminal.

Fifty six (56) bags of debris were removed by the team, which included Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture Senator the Honorable Norland Cox and Minister of the Environment Senator Simon Stiell. While in St. Andrew the NNP Team including Minister of Agriculture the Honorable Yolande Bain Horsford, and Youth Senator the Honorable Judd Cadet, took to the Telescope Beach area where they were able to remove thirty eight (38) bags of debris.

The project was done as part of the celebration on Tuesday 5th of June of World Environmental Day and focused mainly on reducing pollution due to plastics.  Environment Minister Simon Stiell speaking at the St. George Clean Up site spoke of plastics being a major concern to small island developing states such as ours due to their non-biodegradable nature which causes them to remain in the environment.

Senator Stiell went further to state that Government is in the process of various initiatives to ban single use plastics and Styrofoam including recycling initiatives. Stiell also said that the issue though goes beyond government and that each and every citizen has a role to play hence the reason the NNP had taken the lead on this issue with these clean ups.

The NNP continues to call on all Grenadians to be Environmentally conscious in their daily decisions and to be part of the solution to the problem of plastic, Styrofoam and other waste and not part of the problem.
