NEW NATIONAL PARTY MAKES DONATION

Monday 2nd May, 2011: The Opposition New National Party (NNP) has kept its promise to make a donation at the end of their protest march on the Health Care situation in Grenada, to the General Hospital. The donation was put together through the individual donations of persons attending the march as well from other groups and organizations. The donation was made by a delegation comprising party Chairman, Senator Gregory Bowen, Welfare Officer, Mrs. Joy Mancini, Labor Officer, Pastor Winston Garraway, Former Minister of Tourism and Former Parliamentary Representative for the Town of St. George, Mrs. Brenda Hood and Mrs. Peggy Nestfield.

Chairman of the NNP and Former Minister of Agriculture, Senator the Honorable Gregory Bowen stated that the donation was done, as part of the party’s effort to not only speak on issues, but at the same time to actually do something about them. The St. George South East NNP Team Leader stated that the NNP hopes that the donation would go a long way toward alleviating the minimal state of resources at the general hospital as well as the plight of patients.

Included in the items were a variety of food items such as chicken and fish, cheese, cakes and pastries, eggs, vegetables and ground provisions together with cleaning material and toiletries. Ms. Peggy Nestfield a member of the NNP’s Welfare Committee stated that the party was happy to be able to do this donation and would be looking forward to continuing to do so for the benefit of the people of Grenada.

Acting Hospital Administrator Mr. Osbert Charles accepted the donation on behalf of the of Ministry of Health and stated that the items would be useful in helping the Hospital in the holistic improvement of the provision of health care to the patients and promised to utilize them properly.

The New National Party continues to express its concern for the Health Care situation in Grenada and also continues to call on the Government of the day to prioritize the improvement of Health Care in a meaningful way.
