The New National Party extends its congratulation to the West Indies Cricket team on its winning the Twenty20 World Cup inSri Lankalast week.

The victory by the team has lifted the spirits ofCaribbeanpeople, and shows what can be achieved  when we work hard together.

We extend special commendation to the team’s management and  captain Darren Sammy; and hope the historic win signals a new damn for the game in the region.

We understand the importance of cricket to the psyche of the region, and the statement it makes as to who we are as a people.

As with the Olympic performance of our athletes at the London Games this summer, the victory of the West Indies team, shows the world that our size does not limit the greatness of our people.

The New National Party has always been of the view that investment in sports — both infrastructure and personnel — is a worthwhile national pursuit.

Also, developing sports tourism remains a central part of the party’s plan for an economic revival at home.
