New York, October 25, 2008: The National Democratic Congress (NDC) New York Chapter congratulates Mr. Derrick James on his appointment as Grenada’s Council General to New York.
Mr. James has been an exemplary son of the soil in New York for the past two decades. He has demonstrated great leadership skills as a community organizer.
He effectively coordinated disaster relief efforts for Grenada after hurricane Ivan destroyed more than eighty percent of the country’s housing stock in September 2004. Mr. James rallied the community together at a time of great mayhem in the homeland. He met with everyone who would listen to him and even traveled as far as Connecticut to meet Grenadian Organizations to offer words of hope to their loved ones at home and to raise much needed funds to help. Several hundred Grenadians have benefited from Mr. James’ leadership and initiative.
The NDC New York Chapter sees Mr. James as a unifying figure that would strive towards fostering greater involvement of Grenadians in the Diaspora in the development of our tri-island state, Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique.
