NDC keeping with the joyous and religious spirit of Christmas

St. George’s, Grenada – December 4, 2008:- With Christmas fast approaching, members of the ruling National Democratic Congress are planning a series of activities in keeping with joyous and religious spirit of the season.

Among the activities planned are constituency Christmas parties, as well as a major concert scheduled for Saturday, December 20. It will be held at the National Stadium in St. George’s and among the featured acts will be Carlene David, the Jamaican-born international gospel recording artiste.

“On December 20, the NDC is having what we call a Christmas Thanksgiving Concert, which will start at 7 pm,” said Glynis Roberts, NDC Treasurer and the Member of Parliament for St. George South.

“We want to set the base for a nice, peaceful and holy Christmas. We will have Carlene David coming back to give us God’s blessings in song, together with a couple parang bands from Trinidad and Tobago. The cost will be $20 in advance and $25 at the door.”

On December 13 – the week before the stadium concert – MP Roberts will hold the first of two Christmas parties in her constituency. Mrs. Roberts will be putting on what is called, “It’s Christmas: Come Carry and Share.” It will held in conjunction with several churches and schools, including the school for special education.

“We are planning this with the schools and the churches and we encourage the children to come with something to share,” said the NDC MP. “We, in turn, give them gifts and food and fruits. What we try to do is to give them a package that they are not accustomed to.”

The December 13 event, which will also include cultural performances, is scheduled to start 3 pm and will be held at Camahogne Park.

Later in the month, Mrs. Roberts will be hosting a Christmas party for her constituents in Calliste.

“When I was initially elected MP, I went to Calliste the first year and the people told me that it was the first time that a Member of Parliament ever came to Calliste for a Christmas Party,” Mrs. Roberts said. “So each year since, I always go back to Calliste.”

Many of the gifts of toys and books that will be distributed by Mrs. Roberts and other NDC MPs have been donated by party supporters and groups in the United States and Canada.
