St. George’s, April 4, 2011 – Top NDC officials, including Leader Tillman Thomas and General Secretary Peter David, joined the rank and file of the party and supporters at an “enjoyable’’ Family Fun Day in Levera, St. Patrick, on Sunday, April 3.
Prime Minister Thomas, who is also MP for St. Patrick East, moved easily among the crowd, interacting, handshaking and exchanging views and ideas.
Many, especially children, requested pictures with the Prime Minister who was dressed in T-shirt, sandals and casual shorts. Hon. Thomas obliged for the photo shoots, as did General Secretary David, who is MP for the Town of St. George and Minister of Tourism; and Minister of Works and MP for St. Patrick West, Joseph Gilbert.
Among other leading party members who participated in the Family Fun Day were Minister of Youth Empowerment and Sports, Patrick Simmons, MP for St. Andrew South-East; Junior Minister of Information and Culture, Senator Arley Gill; NDC Treasurer, Bernard Isaac; and former Senators Ingrid Rush and Dr. Pemba Braveboy.
“This was a real enjoyable day,’’ one mother said. “There should be many more like this.’’
Sunday’s social activity, which included food, drinks and music, is part of a work-plan and a series of outreach activities agreed to by the Executive and Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress.
“Over the next several weeks and months, we intend to be out there doing what the NDC is best known for; that is caring, sharing, helping and meeting people across the Tri-island State,’’ said Hon. David.
In his address at the March 27 General Council of the NDC, Mr. David promised that the party will be continuing its weekend program of housing upgrades to needy citizens, and will be implementing other initiatives such as an inter-constituency games’ day.
In addition, the NDC proposes to establish computer labs and libraries in each constituency; to set up a youth training initiative for the upcoming school holidays; and to put structure in place to operate a home and food depot to collect items and distribute them to the poor and needy of the country.
