NDC Condolence Statement on Death of PM Thompson

St. George’s, October 23, 2010 – The ruling National Democratic Congress joins Barbadians in mourning the loss of their beloved Prime Minister and a dear friend of Grenada and the NDC, Hon. David Thompson.

Mr. Thompson, Leader of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP), was elected Prime Minister of Barbados following general elections in January 2008.

“Prime Minister Thompson highly regarded Grenada and our Prime Minister and Party Leader, Hon. Tillman Thomas, and was a comrade to us in the NDC,’’ said MP Peter David, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress.

“He and the DLP were among the first to congratulate the NDC on our general election victory in July 2008. Prime Minister Thompson was also among dignitaries who attended the swearing in ceremony of the new NDC Administration at the National Stadium in St. George’s.’’

Grenada, like Barbados and the rest of the region and the world, was shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Prime Minister Thompson on Saturday, October 23.

“Our deep and profound condolences are extended to his family and the government and people of Barbados,’’ said Hon. David, who is also Grenada’s Foreign Minister.

“Mr. Thompson’s contribution as Leader in his country and the region is not measured in the length of service as Prime Minister,’’ the NDC General Secretary said. “It is measured in the value of the ideas and policies he articulated, and for which he steadfastly fought at all times. He will be sadly missed by all and sundry at home and abroad, including the Executive and members of the NDC.’’
