Every year the Grenada Food and Nutrition Council spearheads the staging of a National Nutrition Quiz among secondary schools who follow the Food and Nutrition curriculum.
The top four students from this quiz will represent Grenada at the regional nutrition quiz competition which is conducted by the Caribbean Food and Nutrition Institute (CFNI). Grenada has won the regional competition on two occasions – 2001 & 2003. The objectives of this quiz are two-fold: 1. To provide opportunity for students to review course work in preparation for the CXC examination 2. To improve the image of Food and Nutrition not only in Grenada but also in the region. As was done last year, this year’s competition will also be in zones: South, East, West and Carriacou and thereafter the top three winners of each zone will meet in the grand final. The first round of the competition will be held on Wednesday April 16, 2008 at 1:30pm, with the venue for the south zone being Melville Street Fish Market Conference Room; for the East zone it will be held Eastern District Agricultural Office in Grenville; for the West zone the venue will be St. John Public Library and for Carriacou it will be John’s Unique Conference Room. The competition will be on an individual basis where students from various schools across Grenada will compete for top points in each zone. The three persons with the most points from each zone will advance to the finals which will be held on April 23, 2008 at Melville Street Fish Market Conference Room. The top four finalists will comprise the team which will represent Grenada at the Caribbean Food and Nutrition Institute’s Regional Quiz later this year. .
