MP ROBERTS HELPS REUNITE SISTERS

Two Grenadian sisters, separated for nine months, have been reunited following the intervention of Hon. Glynis Roberts, NDC Member of Parliament and Minister of Labour and Social Services.

The elder sister had appealed to Mrs. Roberts for help, worried at the mental state of her sister and her sibling’s three-year-old daughter who were both taken to Trinidad last July 27 by the boyfriend of the mother. She reported that she believed that wherever her younger sister was, she was “virtually locked up daily.’’

The MP, who has represented St. George South in Parliament since 2003, said she was genuinely concerned about the complaint and promised to do whatever she could to help.

“This woman really wanted to find her only sister,’’ Minister Roberts explained. “A very dear friend of our NDC party living in Trinidad was asked to assist. Within one hour of receiving the information, he called me to say he had a lead.’’

The woman was tracked down in Trinidad and returned to Grenada to be reunited with her sister last weekend.

Mrs. Roberts is elated that the sisters are back together again. “It was the best 24 hours of my parliamentary life,’’ she said. “Perseverance and faith were the hallmarks of this case. It allowed me to see more clearly my purpose and my calling for involving myself in the service of the people of my country.’’

The MP, who is also Minister of Ecclesiastical Affairs, commended the elder for her care, vigilance and persistence, which included alerting Grenada police about the situation.

“I would urge other people to similarly exercise vigilance in respect of family members whom they believe may be leaving the country unwillingly, especially when child custody matters are involved,’’ said Minister Roberts.
