Minister of Education reaches out to the Disapora in the UK

LONDON, UK, October 21, 2009 – The Minister for Education and Human Resource Development Senator Franka Alexis-Bernardine, on Tuesday briefed Grenadians in the United Kingdom on the current state of the Education system in Grenada.

Minister Bernadine highlighted new developments in Special Education and Teacher Training and impressed upon those gathered that though Grenadians were proud of the inherited system of Education, there was still a long way to go in order to keep on board with the new and emerging global trends.

The Grenada Benevolent Society, one of the oldest organisations in the United Kingdom, whose members hailed mainly from Carriacou and Petit Martinique, were pleased to learn of the findings of the Minister’s recent week-long visit to the Sister Isles.

The Minister identified several needs for the schools in Carriacou and Petit Martinique, as well as other needs in Grenada.

Those present were delighted to learn of the emphasis being placed in the Performing Arts, Technical Education, Physical Education and the Government’s decision to train and place Counsellors in all schools. They were keen to contribute to the new thrust in Education and Human Resource Development.

Grenadians in the United Kingdom have supported several initiatives in the Spice Isle over the years, in Health, Education, Sports, Culture and other areas.
