St. George’s, December 16, 2011 – Just two days after the Hilarion Chesire Home in St. Patrick marked the 39th anniversary of its establishment, residents and staff once again had good reason to celebrate.
This time, the celebration involved the receipt of a supply of household items from Parliamentary Representative for St. Patrick West, Hon. Joseph Gilbert.
In a brief address at the handing over ceremony on Thursday, December 15, Mr. Gilbert told the management, staff and residents who gathered for the occasion, that he was making the donation on behalf of the Mt. Craven/Mt. Rodney NDC Community Group.
“The group has put great effort in their several fund-raising activities during the year in order to make this donation possible today,’’ said Mr. Gilbert, NDC MP for St. Patrick West and Environment Minister. “I want to thank all those who have patronized our fund-raising efforts.’’
The package of donation included toiletries and cleaning agents. The items were received by Mrs. Leah Orgias, Administrator of the Hilarion Home.
“This donation will do us well in maintaining the high standard of care to our residents that this Home has come to be noted for,’’ she said in accepting the package from MP Gilbert.
Mrs. Orgias also took the opportunity to express gratitude to Ms. Linette Richards – a Grenadian residing overseas – for a donation of four barrels of foodstuff received by the Home, just the previous day.
The Home, named after the late Father Hilarion Summers, provides care for about 30 residents. Among them is the mother of Ms. Richards.
Mrs. Orgias, commenting on the generosity of Ms. Richards and the Mt. Craven/Mt. Rodney NDC Community Group, said: “I am so excited about all this support we are receiving. God has been good to us in these challenging economic times.’’
Fr. Hilarion died by drowning in Mt. Rodney Bay on December 14, 1972. His death – in waters just 100 meters from the Hilarion Home – occurred one day after the institution was officially commissioned.
