Levera Resort Development Spearheads Beach Cleanup

As part of their continued commitment to enhancing the tourism product in the north of the island, the Levera Resort Development spearheaded a two-day cleanup on both Levera and Bathway beaches.

On Wednesday 13 May a group of Levera Resort employees started at the East end of Levera Beach and worked their way along the 750 m stretch of shoreline. After four hours of hard work, the crew had filled 20 bags of garbage, weighing approximately 400 pounds,  including plastic bottles, cups and packaging; cigarette packets and broken glass. The team also cleared seaweed and driftwood that had accumulated at the high tide mark.

The Levera Resort Cleanup Team then moved on to Bathway Beach on Thursday, collecting a total of 72 bags, nearly 1,440 pounds, consisting of glass bottles; tin cans; plastic bags, containers and packaging; bottle tops; Styrofoam containers and even large pieces of metal. Much of the garbage collected had been left on the beach over the Easter Holiday.

Levera Resort Project Coordinator, Nikki Renwick commented: “Levera and Bathway Beaches are not only beautiful, but are also a great asset to the North of the island. We are totally committed to their long-term protection and enhancement, both as a vital element in Grenada’s tourism product and for maintaining essential environmental awareness.”

“As part of this commitment, the Levera Resort Development has just finished a three-month renovation project in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism to re-build the Bathway Visitor Centre.  We have other activities planned in the near future, including a re-vegetation programme, planting Sea Grape and Almond trees on both Levera and Bathway beaches,” she continued.
