Lavaman planning concert series to aid local charities

St. George’s, November 9, 2011 – Soca star, Lavaman, wants to assist local charities that are strapped for cash to meet their operational needs.

It is with this objective in mind that Lavaman – the 2011 Lucozade Road March champion – is planning on embarking on a series of open-air concerts, with a proposal to hold one in each parish.

“These charities are doing a wonderful job in helping the less fortunate of our society and I believe that those of us who are in position to help them should step forward and do so,’’ said Lavaman, whose winning Road March song for carnival was titled, “So We Dey.’’

Lavaman – real name Marcus James – hopes to begin the concert series in December in his own community on the Carenage in St. George’s.

The intention is to continue the concerts in the New Year, 2012, with one every month in a different parish, he said.

“The concerts will feature some of the best Grenadian DJs, as well as the top names in calypso, soca and steelpan,’’ said Lavaman. “At each concert, we’ll also try and expose a new or upcoming artiste.’’

According to Lavaman, efforts have started at mobilizing performers, as well as soliciting individual and corporate sponsors for the proposed concert tour of the parishes.
