Friday, April 3 – Beausejour Stadium, St. Lucia: The ever popular coin toss which determines the team with decision control was done today by St. Lucia’s reigning Carnival Queen, Miss Cathy Daniel officially starting the 5th and final Digicel ODI. Four hours after the scheduled time, due to rain, Cathy Daniel stepped out to meet with West Indies Captain, Chris Gayle and England Captain, Andrew Strauss.
The beautiful 21 year old Cathy first participated in pageantry three years ago at the St. Lucia Miss Earth, winning the title and representing St. Lucia in Miss Earth where she ranked in the top sixteen finalists. During those years, she pursued a modeling career and competed in the Ford’s face of the Caribbean model search. In 2008, she competed in the local Ms Carnival Queen Pageant, where she won the title and is currently the reigning queen. Cathy looks forward to representing St. Lucia in more pageants and to become an ambassador for her country – St. Lucia.
Supported by her partner, local West Indies cricket player, Mr. Darren Sammy, Cathy has over the years grown an increasing passion for the game of cricket. With her never ending questions posed to him on an almost every day basis, she strives at all times to increase her knowledge of the game and attending many local cricket league competitions.
An excited Cathy expressed how she felt participating in the coin toss of the final Digicel ODI in St. Lucia: “It is a great honour to be able to do this. I have grown to love cricket so to be able to be a part of the Digicel series, especially because we have done so well, is a great honour. I wish them both luck but of course I am routing for Windies.”
Today’s match will decide who will win the Digicel ODI Series 2009. The 5th Digicel ODI in St. Lucia marks the end of the Digicel Series 2009: West Indies vs. England.
