St. George’s, January 22, 2010 – The Sustainable Land Management (SLM) Project in the Ministry of Agriculture is taking steps to develop a training resource guide on wise land management for the construction, tourism and agriculture industries.
A Writers’ Workshop, for technical officers and resource users in the three sub-sectors, will be held next week in St. George’s. Among those who will be attending the opening session are Grenada’s Agriculture Minister Hon. Denis Lett and Dr. Lystra Paul, a representative from the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organisation.
The workshop will provide a forum for identifying causes of land degradation, and best practices for sustainable management of land resources. It’s expected to lead to the production of a resource guide to train farmers, contractors and groups in the tourism and commercial sectors on best practices for preventing and mitigating land degradation. It will also be utilised by public sector officials and non-governmental organisations.
The two-day workshop will be held on Thursday, January 28 and Friday, January 29, at the Media Workers’ Room, Level 2, National Stadium. It commences with an opening ceremony at 9 a.m.
