ITB Berlin MARCH 5-9, 2008

The world’s most important trade and consumer show for the travel industry opens its doors at Berlin’s trade show site from 5th to 9th March, 2008. The whole world meets at ITB Berlin – people working in the travel industry and people who want to catch up on the most beautiful travel destinations.

With an estimated participation this year of 11,147 exhibiting companies from 186 countries and regions, ITB represents the full spectrum of global tourism at all levels of the value added chain  – such as tour operators, booking systems, travel destinations, airlines, hotels and car rentals. The Grenada Board of Tourism’s delegation this year will be led by Hon. Clarice Modeste-Curwen, Minister of Tourism and will include Mrs. Jocelyn Sylvester-Gairy, Director of Tourism, representatives of the Grenada Board of Tourism in Germany and seven (7) members of the local private sector representing six (6) companies.

German tourists make up the second largest market from Europe in terms of visitor arrivals to Grenada with a recorded growth of 3.08% in 2007, thanks largely to Condor Airlines who operate a weekly service to Grenada during the year.

Of significant note also is the fact that, compared to the rest of the Caribbean, Grenada recorded the highest percentage growth of German visitors; over 1100% increase during the summer of 2007 and 52% increase during the winter season. In its 42nd year, ITB Berlin is one of two trade show events attended by the Grenada Board of Tourism, in that source market. The Grenada booth, which will be located in the Caribbean section, is 35 sqm.  The floor will be an underwater theme and the booth will showcase local flowers and spices of the island.

In 2008, the Grenada Board of Tourism, in conjunction with the British Virgin Islands and Antigua, will also conduct a Road Show from 14th to 17th April in Germany.
