St. George’s, December 10, 2011 – Carenage and Honved, Premier League rivals in the Grenada Football Association championship for more than two decades, renewed acquaintances last Saturday when the two teams met at Old Trafford in Tanteen.

Saturday’s friendly game – a clash of players 40 years and older – was exciting from start to finish. Carenage was seeking another victory in its series of 40-plus matches and seemed on course to do so when it scored the opening goal.

However, Honved played themselves back into contention and eventually emerged 3 – 1 winners.

“It was a good game and we look forward to the return against Honved,’’ one Carenage official said. “We also thank the spectators for their support and Leon ‘Ding’ Francis of Blue Bubbles for his generous donation of refreshment for the players.’’

The final 2011 Old Trafford game for veteran players over the age of 40 is scheduled for Saturday, December 17, at 4 p.m.

In the New Year, about eight teams are expected to participate in a formal competition that will be held on weekends.

Teams are now in search of sponsors to assist with the outfitting of uniforms for the competition, which is scheduled to begin in February.
