High Level Delegation From the New Grenada Governmet to visit Canada

A high level delegation from the new Grenada government, which was sworn in to office last month, will pay an official visit to Canada in September.  The delegation, which will also travel to New York, will be on its first North America tour since the National Democratic Congress (NDC) won general elections in Grenada on July 8.

Apart from engaging in official government business with provincial and federal officials in Canada, the visiting NDC team will also attend a gala dinner and dance celebrating the party’s election victory and the first anniversary of the formation of NDC Toronto.

“Prime Minister Tillman Thomas has indicated that he intends to be part of the celebration. So, too, has Foreign Minister Peter David,” said Lincoln Toro Depradine, chairman of NDC Toronto, a support group of the National Democratic Congress.

In the July 8 polls, the NDC swept aside former Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell’s New National Party, which had been in power for 13 years.  The NDC won 11 of the 15 seats in the House of Representatives.

Dr. Mitchell will sit as Leader of the Opposition when the new parliament meets for the first time on August 19.

The NDC Toronto gala, which will include dinner, dance and cultural entertainment, is scheduled for Saturday, September 27, at Ella’s Banquet Hall, 30 Danforth Road, Scarborough.  Tickets are $75 each.

“We are going to make this a celebration to remember,” said Depradine.  “It’s an opportunity for national and non-nationals of Grenada to hear firsthand what are the plans of the NDC government for the development of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique and the administration’s approach to regional issues.”
