The High Commissioner for Grenada to the Court of St. James’s, today continued her round of visits when she met with Commonwealth Secretary-General, HE Kamalesh Sharma at Marlborough House, Headquarters of the Commonwealth Secretariat.
The Secretary-General warmly welcomed High Commissioner Rouse back to Marlborough House and expressed his desire to work with her and other Commonwealth High Commissioners, for the future growth and sustainability of the Countries of the Commonwealth.
Among the areas discussed were the Secretary-General’s vision for a more inclusive Commonwealth, the use of information technology to spread the knowledge around, the desire to include the Diaspora in nation-building and making use of their skill and expertise as well as forging partnership with the private sector in the areas of investment and technological advancement.
The High Commissioner brought greetings from the Government and people of Grenada and brought the Secretary-General up to date on activities in Grenada, the resuscitation of the Agricultural Industry, among others. The High Commissioner also expressed the Government’s appreciation for the continued support received from the Commonwealth, in particular, the establishment of a Diaspora Desk within the Foreign Ministry and training for the public service and officials of Government.
The Secretary-General invited views from the High Commissioner on the way forward for Grenada within the context of the Commonwealth and is expected to hold in-depth discussion with the Heads of Government of CARICOM prior to and during the hosting of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting to take place in Port-of-Spain later in 2009.
