GRENADIANS IN MONTREAL RAISED $2,500 FOR SHIPMENT OF MEDICAL SUPPLIES TO GRENADA

OIL DOWN PICTURE2

Last Friday (July 26), after only one week of planning the Oil Down Friday Lime in support of the plea to Grenadians living in the diaspora to assist in raising much needed funds to ship over $100,000 US worth of medical equipment, including a fully equipped Ambulance to Grenada from Switzerland, many Grenadians and friends of Grenadians living in Montreal packed the UNIA Hall to support the cause.

The Organizers of the event, The Honorary Consul for Grenada in Montreal, Mr. Leonard Wharwood Jr; the President of the Grenada Association of Montreal, Mr. Kenny Calder and the President of Playmas Montreal Cultural Association, Ms. Gemma Raeburn-Baymes, would like to offer sincere thanks to everyone for a job well done.  A total of $2,500 was raised that evening to contribute to the $6,000US needed to ship the equipment.  An additional $ 1,695 was raised on www.indiegogo.com.  Grenadians in Toronto are also fundraising for this cause.

Special thanks to the many who came out to support this initiative, including Mrs. Claudius Mitchell, the mother of the Prime Minister, Dr. The Right Honorable Keith Mitchell.  A great “Thank You” to the wonderful Oil Down Chefs: Leonard Wharwood Jr, Theresa Cloe Henwood, Norma Calliste, Albie Francis, Dean and Donaline Campbell, Tesfa (Aki) Peterson and Anastasia Peterson.  Also thanks to the many volunteers: Roosevelt and Mary Alexis, Rawlda Bhola, Melaine Campbell, Anne Clarke, Delores Sandy, Ted Blaize and everyone who worked so hard to make the event a success.

Volunteering to provide the entertainment were DJ 20/20, DJ Police, DJ Barbu, Calypsonian Doggies, Gospel Singers Zina Edwards and Susan Chato and singing sensation Delta Antoine-Paris.  Howard “Stretch” Carr of CKUT 90.3 West Indian Rhythms ended the entertainment by singing some of the favourite Caribbean Folk Songs.

“It is so special when we can come together for a common good cause.  This wonderful success showed that Grenadians in the diaspora have their country at heart and take the cry for help very seriously”, says Leonard Wharwood Jr, Honorary Consul for Grenada in Montreal.

Guests danced the evening away and left feeling very satisfied that they contributed to such a great cause in such a fun way.

Persons wishing to make a separate donation to the effort can do so by visiting www.indiegogo.com and using the search words; Grenada Medical supplies. Donations can be made via all major credit cards.
