St. George’s February 20, 2009, (GIS)…. Nationals at home may have ended their commemorative activities marking Grenada’s 35th anniversary of Independence, but the celebrations are still underway in Washington.

Grenadians in the United States capital, in continuation of what was dubbed as  “Grenada Week in Washington,” will hold an Independence Anniversary Dinner and Dance on Saturday, February 21.  It’s organized by the Grenada Cultural and Social Association, in association with the Grenada Embassy in Washington.

The week of celebrations opened on February 8 with a church service, followed by a “Grenada National Day Reception and Art Exhibition” at the headquarters of the Organization of American States.

The Exhibition was attended by Grenada’s Youth Empowerment Minister, Honorable Patrick Simmons, who also met with top OAS officials such as Secretary General Jose Miguel Insula, and Assistant Secretary General Albert Ramdin.

Grenadians from New York and other U.S. cities are expected to join their compatriots in Washington for Saturday’s event.
