NEW YORK, November 11, 2012 – A Grenadian-born Long Island school principal says he is taking steps to address the issues of racist tweets by one of his students following the re-election of President Barack Obama.
According to the website Jezebel, Dr Anthony Bridgeman has been quoted as being very offended by the remarks posted by Lou LaDonna of West Islip High School in Suffolk County.
LaDonna, a senior who plays on the school’s varsity football team, was among high school students who posted racist tweets in the wake of Obama’s election victory.
“When in doubt kick the n—– out #Romney,” LaDonna tweeted during the election, and after Obama was declared winner again tweeted “If your “black and did NOT vote for #Obama, clap you’re a–.”
“As a school, we are very offended by these remarks and are taking the necessary steps to address it,” Dr Bridgeman told Jezebel.
“On a personal note, as a black male principal of this great school, I take umbrage to those remarks; however, I know this student very well and that is not who he is. He made a terrible mistake.”
The website said that LaDonna has since stopped using the twitter account.
Dr Bridgeman received the Leadership Award at the Grenada Boys’ Secondary School (GBSS) Alumni Association of New York’s Scholarship Awards and Dinner Dance in 2011 and will lead a contingent of his faculty to the 2012 edition on December 8.
