Grenada’s Ameena Caesar was crowned the first ever Miss Caribbean Queen in New York on Friday night at Club Nocturnal.
The 18 year-old from Marquis, St Andrew defeated five other contestants from Jamaica, St Kitts & Nevis, Haiti, Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago.
She copped all five categories – best introduction, talent, swim wear, evening gown and interview – to finish on 442 points, and ahead of runners-up Miss Trinidad and Tobago on 379 points and Miss Jamaica on 312 points.
Ameena, who was the first runner-up in the 2010 Miss Grenada-USA Pageant, was a strong favorite and received crowd support from a large Grenadian contingent.
She is also Grenada’s reigning Independence Calypso Monarch in New York, a title she will defend on Sunday night.
Consul General Derrick James was on hand to crown Miss Caesar.
