GRENADA REPRESENTED AT CARICOM-CUBA MEETING

HAVANA, Cuba, Sept 17, 2010 – Grenada was among regional countries represented at Friday’s Third Cuba-CARICOM Ministerial Meeting that opened Friday, September 17, in Havana, the Cuban capital.

Grenada’s representative is Hon. Peter David, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Cuban Foreign  Minister, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, in addressing the meeting, emphasised the collective aspiration of Cuba and its CARICOM neighbours to have a more just and equitable international order, based on respect for international law and the principles of the United Nations’ Charter.

“We are convinced that integration based on solidarity, cooperation and willingness to attain higher levels of development, can translate into the well-being of Latin American and Caribbean peoples and a path to preserve their sovereignty and identity,” Rodriguez Parrilla  said.

The meeting is discussing issues such as bilateral relations, deeper integration and the current situation in Haiti.

The agenda also includes topics related to the environment, sustainable development in the region and cooperation in sectors such as education, health, energy and agriculture.
