Grenada is taking all necessary precautionary measures to eliminate possible threats from the dreaded Ebola disease. This was the assurance given by Ministry of Health officials in light of national concerns and fears.
In a media briefing last week Tuesday, health minister – Hon. Dr. Clarice Modeste-Curwen stated that the ministry is following the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO). She said that the government is working closely with the St. George’s University (SGU) and all health-related stakeholders, and that an area at the Maurice Bishop International Airport (MNIB) and at the General Hospital have been identified should the need arise for quarantine.
Last week Thursday, Chief Medical Officer – Dr. George Mitchell showed the set of equipment which are currently in the possession of the ministry for distribution should it become necessary. Dr. Mitchell made the disclosure at the Princess Alice Hospital at the start of an official ceremony to present a cheque towards the construction of housing for the proposed X-Ray unit at the hospital.
These include suits, masks, boots, gloves and certain types of medication. Dr. Mitchell said that these would be spread about to the medical facilities throughout the country including the MBIA. The CMO informed all Grenada that there might not be a set of clothing for every Grenadian, but he gave the assurance that there is sufficient to equip all medical personnel who would be practically engaged. In that regard he said that Grenada would be prepared to the best of its ability.
