The Prime Minister of Grenada Dr. Keith Mitchell is taking democracy in Grenada to an all time low. Mitchell who has been involved in Grenada’s politics since 1972 has been acting strangely since the beginning of campaign
Some people are suggesting that he is mentally unfit. The problem started with the opposition National Democratic Congress NDC election of a young corporate attorney Dickon Mitchell no relation to the Prime Minister.
Dr Mitchell has been attacking the young NDC leader at every NNP rally starting with the age of Dickon Mitchell Dickon who is in his mid 40’s. When Keith Mitchell contested the 1972 election he was only 23.
Dickon Mitchell was born to working-class parents in the rural village of Petite Esperance, St. David. He received his primary school education at St. David’s RC school. He completed his Secondary School education at the Presentation Brothers College and after his five-year tenure, he enrolled at the TAMCC.
After the June 1st nomination the elder Mitchell accused the younger of wearing a Jacket and tie to present his nomination papers. Dr. Keith Mitchell told a gathering of supporters “when you ever see a person wearing a Jacket and tie to nomination? this is serious business you know”.
Dr Keith Mitchell has also accused Dickon Mitchell of suing everybody. But the evidence is clear that Keith Mitchell has sued many Grenadians for libel starting with Eddie Fredricks the host of a local radio show, George Worme the editor and owner of a local Newspaper, Claudette Joseph NDC candidate and attorney.
Dr Mitchell has a reputation of not honoring the court decisions. Two local citizens Dorset Charles and Jemma Bain-Thomas won judgments against the Government and Keith Mitchell refused to pay.
The recent judgement against the Government on the Public Workers pension issue is meeting some resistance from the ruling party. The NDC has promise that withing 6 months they will honor the court judgement.
