Grenada Consulate in New York City to be Downgraded to an Honarary office

The Grenada government of Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell is downgrading the Consulate office in New York City to an Honorary Consular Office.

This decision was made because of the appointment of Derrick James as the new person the head the office, James is a citizen of the United States and under United States laws a US citizen cannot serve as Consul General to another country.

Why is the government changing the office to suite one individual? Why not appoint someone who is qualify for the job. It will be interesting to see what will happen when Mr. James term is over. Will the government upgrade back to a full Consulate Office?

The NNP government which was reelected to office earlier this year is once again making questionable diplomatic appointments.  The NNP was voted out of power because of the appointment of several crooks as Grenada’s ambassadors to several countries.

This is the first time the office will be downgraded since it was opened in 1974 after independence.
