
St. George’s, October 7, 2011 – Ministers have been sworn in to serve in new portfolios in the Government of Grenada.
The swearing in, which began Tuesday with Honourable Joseph Gilbert who was leaving the state on government business, was completed Friday at the official residence of Governor General, Sir Carlyle Glean.
“I believe that these changes would be in the best interest of our government and the country at this time and wish the affected ministers the very best in their new assignments,’’ Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas said September 30 in announcing the cabinet changes.
As part of the changes, Hon. Gilbert – the former Minister of Works, Physical Development and Public Utilities – is now Minister of Environment, Foreign Trade and Export Development.
Senator Dennoth Modeste, the former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, is the new Minister of Works, Physical Development and Public Utilities.
The Prime Minister has readjusted his own ministry and created a new portfolio, mobilization. His Minister of State is Senator Glen Noel, who has been transferred from the Ministry of Housing, Lands and Community Development.
Sen. Noel is the Minister responsible for National Mobilization and Information.
Culture, a portfolio formerly under the Prime Minister’s Ministry, has been put under the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation.
Sen. Arley Gill remains as the Minister responsible for Culture, and is the Junior Minister to Hon. Peter David.
“In making these changes,’’ said Mr. Thomas, “I have remained mindful that one of the fundamental responsibilities of the Prime Minister is to make arrangements for the proper and beneficial performance of government.’’
