GNVA Pleased with skill level in schools volleyball tournament

The Grenada Volleyball Association (GNVA) is pleased with the skill level displayed by volleyball teams in the secondary schools tournament.

GNVA President, Richard Simon says individuals and teams are showing significant potential which should be further “harnessed and developed” to ensure Grenada can hold its own in regional and international tournaments.

“We have seen a level of skill displayed during the tournament by some individuals and some teams that make the future of volleyball very bright. We are also delighted with the level of support from the schools for the tournament,” the Association President said.

He commended the Ministry of Sports led by Minister Hon. Patrick Simmons, the Director of Sports, Conrad Francis and the work of coaches Raphael Brathwaite and Adam Lafeuillee (pronounced La fa Yea) for their efforts at improving the level of the game within the secondary schools.

The GNVA President said efforts are being made through the Ministry and Olympic Solidarity to have two international coaches in Grenada in 2009 to further strengthen the sport and to prepare Grenada’s teams for regional tournaments.

In 2009 Grenada will participate in a regional World Cup qualifying tournament for both ladies and men.

“Olympic Solidarity through Mrs. Veda Bruno-Victor has been working with the Association to develop the game in Grenada by sponsoring an international coach for a six month stint here. We look forward to meeting that commitment in 2009. This will be a major boost to the sport both at the school and the club levels,” said President Simon.

The school tournament is into its final stages..
