St. George’s, October 10, 2011 – Residents of St. Patrick West are gathering this week for the second meeting in less than two weeks.

The town hall-style meeting, scheduled for Thursday, October 13, will be addressed by the Hon. Joseph Gilbert, MP for St. Patrick West.

Reports are that MP Gilbert is planning to give what one source describes as “a full account of his stewardship in government for the last three years.’’

In addition, he’ll listen to the public’s perspective on the way forward for the parish, which is also represented in parliament by Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas. The Prime Minister is MP for St. Patrick East.

It is likely that constituents, as they did at the first St. Patrick West Constituency Branch meeting on October 2, will raise concerns about the Prime Minister’s recent removal of Mr. Gilbert as Minister of Works.

“The people of St. Patrick are yet to hear a reasonable explanation for Prime Minister Thomas’s recent Cabinet reshuffle which saw the removal of MP Joseph Gilbert as Minister for Works,’’ said one parishioner who attended the October 2 meeting at the St. Patrick’s Anglican School.

“If our MP did something wrong, let us know,’’ the individual added. “If he committed an offense by refusing to dabble with the awarding of a particular Works’ contract in St. Patrick East, and not give consideration to the due process of accountability and transparency set up his Ministry, let us know.’’

In the Cabinet reshuffle, Hon. Gilbert lost the portfolio of Minister of Works, Physical Development and Public Utilities to Senator Dennoth Modeste of St. Mark.

Mr. Gilbert is now Minister of Environment, Foreign Trade and Export Development.

Thursday’s meeting, which begins 7 p.m., will be held at the Sauteurs Anglican School. All members of the public, especially constituents of St. Patrick, are invited to attend.
