St. George’s, January 11, 2011 – The General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has reiterated his commitment to building the party and making it ready to for the next general election.

“Forget all the talk and rumours you are hearing out there. I remain committed to building this party. The NDC must, and can win, the next election whenever the Prime Minister decides to call it,’’ MP Peter David told party supporters at a social event Saturday in St. Andrew. It was organized by constituency chairpersons of the NDC and the Party’s Secretariat.

It is the first of many party events to be held in 2011, said Mr. David, who thanked fellow MPs and grassroot members of the NDC for attending the event. He apologized on behalf of Party Leader and Prime Minister, Hon. Tillman Thomas, who was unable to attend because of his engagement at another function in his constituency, St. Patrick East.

The General Secretary said he was grateful to party members, supporters and volunteers for their unwavering dedication to the cause of the NDC and what the party stands for.

“I want to pay tribute to all those party stalwarts in every community in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique,’’ he said. “They have contributed so much to the NDC and continue to make an invaluable contribution to the party. Thank you so very much.’’

Apart from MP David, other speakers at Saturday’s event were NDC Chairman, Senator Glen Noel, and Youth Empowerment and Sports Minister, Patrick Simmons, MP for St. Andrew South East.

Among other senior and veteran NDC officials present were Deputy Leader and MP for St. George North East, Finance Minister Nazim Burke; Agriculture Minister and MP for St. David, Denis Lett; Social Development Minister and MP for St. Andrew South West, Sylvester Quarless; Senator Arley Gill, Junior Minister of Information and Culture; former NDC Interim Leader, Jerome Joseph; former NDC Chairman Collin La Barrie; former MP Kenrick Fullerton; former Senator Ingrid Rush; and Maria Roberts-Pascal, President of the Women’s Arm of the National Democratic Congress.
