ST. GEORGE, GRENADA, July 5, 2011 – One hundred and thirty six (136) Soca Artistes will face a five man panel of judges beginning this Thursday as the annual Soca Caravan begins. The GCC – LIME Soca Monarch Quarterfinal competition moves across four parishes as the soca stars attempt to get the nod of the judges to move onto the semifinal on July 22nd.
Chairman of the GCC’s Calypso Sub-Committee, Clarence Baker expressed great optimism that this year’s Soca Monarch will be of an extremely high standard. Baker said ‘after listening to the competing releases, I have great hope that Grenadian Soca music will again have a huge regional impact.
The competition kicks off at 8 p.m. this Thursday in Cuthbert Peters Park in Gouyave. The action then moves onto the Victoria Hard Court on Friday, Fond Recreation Ground on Saturday and culminates at the La Saggesse Natural Works on Sunday. Show time is 8 p.m. each night except on Sunday when Showtime is scheduled for 7 p.m.
