NEW YORK, December 4, 2012 – The Grenada Boys’ Secondary School (GBSS) Alumni Association of New York is preparing to roll out the red carpet to welcome honourees and invited guests attending its 21st Annual Scholarship Awards and Dinner Dance this weekend.
Among the first to arrive on Wednesday will be former Principal of the GBSS Victor Ashby, General Manager of LIME Grenada Ltd Angus Steele along with some other alumni members traveling from Grenada for the event.
Mr Ashby will be among honourees at Saturday’s Gala event being staged at Antuns in Queens, New York. Also to be honoured are World and Olympic 400m Champion Kirani James and NCAA multi-event champion and Grenada record holder in the Decathlon Kurt Felix.
Mr Steele, also a former student of the GBSS, will be representing Corporate Grenada who has provided substantial support for this year’s event. Other Grenada-based sponsors have appointed proxy representations including Directors.
A feature this year will be the launch of the inaugural Kirani James/Co-operative Bank Athletic Scholarship Award. The award will be presented by Mr James on the night of the Gala.
Members of the CARICOM Consular Corps in New York will represent the diplomatic community and Council Member Jumaane Williams, whose father attended the GBSS and excelled in athletics and football, will make presentations on behalf of elected officials in New York.
Entertainment will be provided by Grenada’s musical maestro Edson “Ajamu” Mitchell and the Virginia-based band Passion as well as DJ Hot Wax.
