Fund for the Orphans & Elderly makes 2nd distribution of Pampers

Monday 13th July, 2009:   Sister Francis Mason, Chairman of the Fund for the Orphans and Elderly presented 40 cases of adult diapers to the various homes for the elderly at the cost of US$1,598.35 equivalent to EC Four thousand Three Hundred and Forty Two Dollars and Fifty Six Cents (EC $4342.56)

Present for the hand over were Mrs. Lynda Evans – President of the Geriatric Networking Group made by Sr. Francis Mason.  Mrs. Tessa Whyte, Treasurer of the Fund for the Orphans and Elderly made the presentation to and Ms. Carol Charles, of the Grand Anse home for the Aged.

The Fund was conceived by St. George’s University in 1991 to provide year round support and care for the disadvantaged members of our community.

This is done via an annual assessment of needs, and allocation of funds to purchase items requested by the homes.  The assessment also allows for monitoring and accountability of resources.

The Fund is sustained by donations from individual and corporate members of our Grenadian community, faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends of St. George’s University. All of the administrative costs of the Fund are borne by St. George’s University so that contributions go directly to the thirteen institutions that the Fund supports.  For the year 2009 the fund has so far raised Ninety Four Thousand, Five Hundred and Thirty Two Dollars and Seventy Seven cents (EC $94,532.77).

Sr. Nelson notes that the work of the Fund has been instrumental in raising the quality of care and standard of operations of institutions which care for orphans and the elderly throughout Grenada.  She expresses sincere gratitude to all donors for making it possible for the Fund to continue making a difference.
