FORMER PRIME MINISTER DR KEITH MITCHELL CONGRATULATES KIRANI JAMES AND RONDELL BARTHOLOMEW

Tuesday 30th August 2011:  Former Prime Minister and Leader of Her Majesty’s Opposition as well as the entire Executive body of the New National Party along with the people of Grenada Carriacou and Petite Martinique, congratulate our star 400 meters athletes Mr. Kirani James for winning the Gold medal in the IAAF World Championship in Daegu, South Korea, and Mr. Rondell Bartholomew for making the finals and being ranked in the top eight 400 meters runners in the world.

Dr. Mitchell commented “their achievement on the world stage demonstrates the tenacity and good will of the Grenadian spirit and that despite humble beginnings, with good discipline and a determination to work hard we can always achieve our goals.”  He went on to say, “This victory isGrenada’s victory and we all should embrace it and the economic benefits it could bring to our struggling economy with both hands”.

He further went on to say, our dear daughter Janelle Redhead who will compete in the 200 meters later this week, will proudly carry the flag of the country high as her fellow athletes Kirani and Rondell have done.  To have made it to Daegu is an achievement in itself, and whatever happens in your pursuit; please be assured, the entire nation is behind you.

The former Leader also congratulated the parents for the outstanding work they have done in helping to shape these young athletes to achieving this level of success in the athletic arena.  “Certainly your hard work is paying off.” He added. 

Dr Mitchell also thanked the coaches, Albert Joseph and the others for the excellent foundation they have laid in these our star athletes.  The whole ofGrenadais rejoicing today because of your hard work in preparing them.
