Friday 8th April 2011: Former Prime Minister and current Opposition Leader, Dr. the Rt. Honorable Keith Mitchell has once again called for a regional approach to the issue of Clico/British American. Dr. Mitchell made the statements while addressing members of the Grenville business community on Thursday.
The Opposition Leader said that it remains the moral responsibility of each government to ensure that depositors are repaid but that a regional approach including the Government of Trinidad and Tobago needs to take place. He stated that the various affected countries need to meet and directly address the issue and agree on a final formula with each government making a contribution.
On the Capital Bank International issue, Dr. Mitchell called on the government to consider using government resources to pay off minor depositors while much larger depositors await the court decision on the matter.
