St. George’s, June 14, 2012 – MP Peter David, who resigned April 30 as a government minister, has assured his constituents that he has no plans of quitting politics.

“I am not getting out of politics and I am not abandoning the people,’’ the former Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister told about 50 people attending a meeting Thursday of the Town of St. George Constituency Group of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

David, who is NDC General Secretary, has been MP for the Town of St. George since 2003.

“I will be running in the next general election and I believe I will win,’’ he said to applause.

David reiterated his commitment to the NDC, saying he remains willing to work at “pulling things together’’ with his colleagues in the party and government.

“I believe the NDC can win the next general election but there are things that need to be done,’’ the General Secretary argued. “We were elected to make people’s lives better. That is what we were elected to do as politicians, and I believe this government can do better.’’

David expressed “deep appreciation’’ to his constituents for twice electing him as Town of St. George MP, and for their support “during what has been a difficult period.’’

“No matter what happens,’’ he said, “once the people are behind me, I’ll be fine.’’

He outlined a series of activities planned for his community over the next three months.

They include an indoor meeting at the St. George’s Anglican Senior School; a flea market on Melville Street; a Summer School Program; health fairs; and ongoing efforts at meeting people’s housing and employment needs.
