Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. Peter David has described the just concluded Fifth Summit of the Americas as a splendid success.
Minister David on Monday commended the fact that the summit concluded without the expected war of words among the main players like Venezuela and the United States.
“I think the summit last weekend gave all in the hemispheric meeting a sense that we can work together despite differences“ the Foreign Affairs Minister Stated
Mr. David labeled the earlier removal of restrictions on Cuba by the US as a “smart move” and one widely responsible for the simmering of tensions among the leaders.
He praised US President Barrack Obama for breaking tradition by listening to the concerns of other leaders, describing it as one the significant milestones of the summit.
“In the past you hear stories of past presidents who came to a meeting make a statement and leave. This time it was different, Barrack Obama stayed all day and listened. Quite frankly for all of us it was a good summit with a whole lot of possibilities” he said.
