Footballers off to Barbados for Under-10 competition

St. George’s, September 26, 2011 – Grenada will be represented at a weekend regional Under-10 football tournament to be held in Barbados.

First Touch won the right to represent Grenada after winning the local legal of an Under-10 competition.

The team of players, supported by coaches and parents, will leave for Barbados on Friday, September 30.

First Touch, whose home field for practice is in Morne Rouge, has been raising funds to offset the cost of the trip to Barbados.

One of the fundraisers was a mini Under-10 competition at Old Trafford Playing Field last Saturday.

The day-long event, of music and the sale of food and drinks, involved six teams.

Awesome Paradise of St. Andrew defeated Wembley of River Road 3 – 1 to win the competition. First Touch was third.

The Under-10 football tournament was last weekend’s only sporting event at Old Trafford.

The next Old Trafford activity being planned by the Carenage Organisation for Recreation and Entertainment (CORE) will be cricket on Sunday, October 2.

Among Sunday’s matches will be Carenage youth versus a team of players 40 years and older. In an earlier game of football, the 40-plus group defeated the youth 2 – 1.

Meanwhile, CORE invites residents of the Carenage and surrounding communities to a general meeting on Thursday, October 6, 5 p.m., at the Community Room, Carenage Sports Complex.

Refreshment will be served at the meeting, which will appoint officers to an interim committee and also discuss plans for the further development of Old Trafford.

CORE has also agreed to a request from officials of the Grenada Cultural Foundation and the National Disaster Management Agency to speak to the group at the October 6 meeting.
