St. George’s, December 25, 2009 – Fellow Grenadians, and in particular residents of the constituency of the Town of St. George, I wish to extend to you my very best wishes at this holiday season.
Christmas is one of the most anticipated times of the year because of the joy it brings to people everywhere. The world experienced that same joy more than 2,000 years ago, with the birth of Jesus Christ.
Christ exemplified that the true meaning of life resided in sharing, in caring and in being each other’s keeper. The goal of each of us should be to practice these virtues year-round, just as Christ did when he walked the face of the earth.
I wish to commend the individuals and organisations that have gone the extra mile, that have made sacrifices, to ensure that the aged, the very young and the less privileged among us are not left wanting at this time of the year. May God richly bless you for providing to your fellow Grenadians items such as food hampers, clothes and toys, and for making time to visit those who are confined to their homes or an institution.
As we close the chapter on another year, I want to thank the people of the Town of St. George for the confidence they continue to place in me as their representative in the Lower House of Parliament. I recommit to working steadfastly on your behalf, and on behalf of all the people of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique, to make this nation a better place to live.
I want to offer special thanks to the hundreds of people from the Town of St. George that have volunteered and assisted me in one way or another, including members of our Constituency Group.
I also express my gratitude to all the many others from the Town of St. George, as well Grenadians across the nation and in the Diaspora, who have supported me as an MP, a Minister of Government and the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress.
I wish everyone a bright and prosperous New Year, 2010.
Many good things are in store for our nation. As part of the development thrust of the government, a number of playing fields and community centres will be refurbished and/or opened in the New Year. In the Town of St. George, for example, we plan to open a community centre in River Road, return the Melville Street basketball court to recreational use by the community, and spruce up and build on the pavilion at the Tanteen Playing Field called the Roy St. John Recreation Ground.
I look forward to your continued support in the execution of these projects. Several other projects are also planned for the city.
I look forward to the celebrations of the 300th anniversary of the Town of St. George in April next year and look forward to working with several community organisations in this regard.
The celebration of 300 years of the Town of St. George is certainly an occasion worth celebrating in a big way. I invite all Grenadians to join us in these celebrations.
I closing, I wish everyone God’s grace and richest blessings in the New Year.
I thank you!
