FM DAVID SPEAKS TO INDIA AND CANADA FOR MORE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, November 27, 2009 – Grenada’s Foreign Minister Peter David on Thursday continued his round of bilateral meetings in the margins of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) here.
 
 Minister David met with his Indian counterpart The Honourable S.M. Krishna, and they discussed a wide range of issues including ICT; Business Development; Training, Culture, among others.
 
 The Grenadian Foreign Minister took the opportunity to thank the Government of India for the kind assistance they have made available so far, especially with the ICT Sector and Human Resource Development.
 
 The Indian Foreign Minister was extremely pleased to note that May 1st had been officially recognised as Indian Arrival Day in Grenada.
 
 The discussion also focused on plans to establish a Joint Commission and to explore ways to enhance technical cooperation and support, also with assistance to the nutmeg industry.
 
 Minister Krishna extended an invitation for Minister David to visit India as soon as conveniently possible with members of the Private Sector to view the strides India has made in Business Development and in particular, ICT.
 
 The discussions followed recent meetings with delegations from Singapore, Australia and Canada.
 
 Minister David on Wednesday met with Canadian Foreign Minister Lawrence Cannon where among issues discussed were strengthening the long-standing relationship between the two countries; maximising on the opportunities available with the Seasonal Farm Workers Programme; the current status of the visa restriction; police training and education and human resource assistance.
 
 Minister Canon referred to the strong relationship which existed between Canada and CARICOM and the recent funds made available for assistance to CARICOM Countries.
 
 Minister David thanked the Canadian Minister for his country’s continued support to Grenada over the may years and they both pledged to work together to enhance the relationship and support each other especially as Commonwealth Member States.
