FIRST PHASE OF CHINESE HOUSING PROJECT BEGUN

Representatives of the Government of Grenada and the Peoples Republic of China have officially signed the Supplementary Engineering Design Contract for the first phase low- income Housing Project.

The Supplementary Engineering Design Contract was signed by the Minister for Housing, Lands and Community Development and the Chinese resident ambassador H.E Zhang Wanhai on Wednesday 27th May, 2009.

This Supplementary Contract allows the Government of the People’s Republic of China to complete the tendering process for the selection of the Contracting  Firm that will  implement  the  Master  Plan for the construction of  the  low  in-come houses  at Soubise, St. Andrew, Frequente and  Mt. Gay, St. George.

The surveys and design fees will be settled through the gratuitous aid programme in the  Economic and Technical Co-operation Agreement which was signed in 2005.

The first phase of contract will entail the construction of 361 houses which should begin by the last Quarter of 2009.
