The Neonatal unit at the General Hospital now has a new scale for monitoring the weight of babies who are born prematurely. The scale was donated to the hospital by First Caribbean International Bank following a recommendation by an employee of the bank Lucy Walters and her Husband Terrence, who saw the need to strengthen the hospital’s care for premature children at the Unit.
“We saw the need to support the unit because there was a need to provide proper monitoring services for children and to help parents deal with some of the issues associated with children who are born prematurely,” Mr. Walters said at the recent handover ceremony.
First Caribbean acting Country Manager, Nigel Ollivierre said his bank was “very pleased” to help with the provision of the scale to the unit as part of the bank’s Adopt a Cause programme..
“We are extremely pleased and happy to be in a position to make this donation. The investment in health care is always a good one as it help to improve the delivery of care by nurses and provides much needed information to parents” he said.
Mr. Ollivierre expressed his appreciation to the hospital official, Rawle Ross, who assisted in sourcing the equipment as he ensured it was state of the art and could be put into service immediately. Both Health Minister Karl Hood and Hospital Administration Thorne Roberts expressed their appreciation for the equipment which Minister Hood agreed was needed at the Neonatal unit.
“It is always a good thing when the private sector becomes involved in assisting the provision of health. We, as government welcome this gesture and hope others will also become involved,” he said.
The Minister also praise the initiative of the Walters family in seeing the need and doing something about it.
