August 31st, 2012: The Right Honourable Dr.Keith Claudius Mitchell, PC,MP, leader of Her Majesty’s Opposition and Leader of the New National Party (NNP) returned to Grenada late this afternoon after successful visits to Europe and North America where he conducted Party and other official business. Dr. Mitchell described his overseas tour as positive and encouraging as Grenadians in the diaspora are very much aware of the current political crisis and impotence in the nation and are monitoring it with great interest.
Arriving at the Maurice Bishop International Airport (MBIA), Dr.Mitchell was greeted by hundreds of party supporters and executive members including Deputy Leader Senator Gregory Bowen, Senator Dwight Horsford and Party’s Public Relations Officer, Terrence Forrester. Other welcoming members of the Party included included Constituency Candidates and other on lookers included members of the local media.
In responding to the many questions posed by media representatives about the deteriorating political situation in the Nation, Dr.Mitchell indicated that while abroad he was able to be kept informed about many of the occurrences and look forward to meeting with elected and party officials for a thorough briefing on the situation. Dr. Mitchell also promised the media that in the coming days ahead he will have much more to add to the crumbling affairs in the tri-state.
Once again, the NNP demonstrated to Grenadians its inclusiveness and ability to run the affairs of the party even when its leader is absent for long periods. In Dr. Mitchell’s absence, parliamentary and party officials addressed the issues governing the electoral process in Grenada; Prime Minister’s Thomas verbal onslaught on the NNP and Member of Parliament Karl Hood. The recently filed no- confidence motion by Hood against the government was a matter of high priority dealt with by Party officials.
On behalf of Dr.Mitchell and his team, the NNP wishes to express its appreciation to all concerned Grenadians at home and in the Diaspora for their ongoing support. While water has entered the ship and crew abandonment are continuing, the NNP work is not yet over until the mantle of government is wrestled from the NDC ill-fated crew.
