When Dr. Keith Mitchell said he could not find a successor to replace him as the leader of the New National Party and as Prime Minister, many criticized him.
Following the defeat of the New National Party in the June 23, 2022 general elections, I now understand what he was talking about. After listening to Emmalin Pierre one day after the election asking the new government of Dickon Mitchell to pay the pension now. Yolande Bain-Horsford sending text messages to people calling them opportunist and Kate Lewis who won the St. Andrew North East seat telling her supporters that anything the new government have to do must pass through her just exposed her ignorance.
It is clear that none of those three women has any potential of being the Prime Minister of Grenada or leading a political party. If Mrs. Pierre and Ms. Lewis want to make any meaningful contribution to parliament, they should do some quick studies on government and Grenada Parliament. They will soon find out that making noise in parliament means nothing to a government that has a 9-6 majority.
The new NDC government must be given a grace period to settle down. Kate Lewis should understand that the government don’t have to seek her permission to do anything in your constituency. They don’t have to give her any money as the previous government. Grenadians no longer will have to go to Kate Lewis or Emmalin Pierre to find work.
As for the outgoing parliamentary representative for St Andrew South West we should thank her for her service and wish her a happy and healthy retirement. The former member of parliament for St. Andrew South West did no learn much for ten years in parliament, she was voted out because of the way she treated the people of her constituency. The people of South West have complained that she showed favor to some of her supporters giving them several contract running concurrently while others got nothing.
Dickon Mitchell now have a wonderful opportunity to shape Grenada’s future. Let us wish him and his new administration well.
