St George’s, December 16, 2015 – Members of community-based swimming clubs, as well as swimmers at government-run primary schools across Grenada, soon will be receiving swimsuits and other gear to help improve their performance in the sport.

The gear, which also includes goggles and trunks, has been donated by Clevoy Depradine, a Grenadian living in Long Island, New York.

“The distribution of the donation to the children will take place in January during the Inter-Primary Schools’ swim meet. I have already spoken to several clubs about it,’’ Pamela Cherebin, Public Relations Officer of the Grenada Amateur Swimming Association, said Wednesday while receiving the donation from Lincoln Depradine, brother of Clevoy Depradine.

“Your brother heard of the need and came on board,’’ she explained. “Our aim, as an association, is to make sure that these children have opportunities like any other children involved in swimming.’’

Cherebin said 60 percent of all Grenada’s swimmers are participants in a government-supported national primary schools’ swim program.

Under the program, youngsters from the outer parishes are bused to Good Hope Swimming Pool in St George’s for weekday practice sessions run by Chris and Natalie Regis.

Another session, supervised by coach Carlton Simon, is held on the beach in St Andrew for the young swimmers.
