Kingston, Jamaica – Friday, May 8th: President of the Jamaica Football Federation and CFU Vice President, Captain Burrell, has hailed the first leg of the Digicel Kick Start Clinics 2009 as a huge success.
Captain Burrell refers to the Digicel Kick Start Clinics as a ‘Master Shot’. He said: “The JFF is delighted to have worked with Digicel to bring the clinics to Jamaica. Digicel has achieved its objective of supporting the development of these young players and giving them an opportunity to forge a successful football career.”
The JFF boss noted that exposure such as the Digicel Kick Start Clinics gives the players a true sense of what professional football is like.
“In effect, what it has done is instilled a level of confidence in hundreds of other young players by giving them a sense of understanding that football can provide a livelihood for them. It is a great inspiration for others.”
Burrell said that Jamaica football is better off as a result of the Digicel Kick Start Clinics. They encourage other young players throughout Jamaica to aim high and strive to be the best they can be in the sport.
The leading football administrator noted that the mere fact that six players from around the Caribbean will be selected for a once in a lifetime opportunity to train for one week with Sunderland AFC in September, will inspire others to realize their dream of playing professional football.
“Football is the most popular sport in the Caribbean and the Digicel Kick Start Clinics could not have come at a better time. Essentially, this programme strengthens the foundation of youth football by giving the participants exposure to a higher level of coaching, courtesy of John Barnes. I am sure the spinoff in terms of others wanting to be a part of the next Digicel Kick Start Clinics is immense.”.
