Smartphone users may soon be able to purchase and download mobile applications developed by Grenadians, right here at home.
The Ministry of ICT – Prime Minister’s Office and telecommunications provider LIME are pioneering a ground breaking workshop on Mobile Application Development.
The four-day workshop, to be held from April 16 – 19, at the Trade Centre Annex, offers a deep dive induction into the emerging industry, walking participants through all phases from conceptualization to implementation.
According to of ICT in the Ministry of ICT, Loretta Simon “what’s fascinating about the venture is that “at the end of the workshop, we will have live applications that will go from the desk to the world.”
According to Simon, all the applications developed over the four-day period, will be uploaded to the App Store and made available for sale.
Four international facilitators and one regional facilitator will take on the task of conducting the workshop. Their efforts are being coordinated by the Trinidad non-profit foundation Bright Path.
Throughout their tenure in Grenada, each of the facilitators will introduce participants to a particular aspect of mobile application development.
The participants, who will be operating in groups of five, will collaborate to develop applications that are non-operating system or platform specific for use.
In addition to the sale of the applications in the App Store, each and every one of the applications developed will be showcased at TEXPO – Grenada’s Technology Exposition.
Simon, who also the chairman of the TEXPO Organizing Committee, believes it is the duty of government to ensure that full exposure is given to talented Grenadians.
